Jean Ergas | Chief Economist

Jean Ergas produces Macro-Economic analysis, including currency, interest rate, political, trade, counter party, credit risk and asset allocation strategy.

Mr. Ergas has over 20 years’ experience in global finance and risk management in which he has both held senior positions in the corporate world as well as advising sophisticated global investors. He is a specialist in energy/commodities, global capital markets and insurance/reinsurance.

Prior to Tigress, Mr. Ergas worked for the A.M. Best Company as an Assistant Vice President in the Global Financial Services Group, at Swiss Bank Corporation (now UBS) in the capital markets group – raising financing for sovereign and non-sovereign borrowers - at ENI as the Assistant to the Managing Director of Hydrocarbons International Holding Company in Zurich, as well as the Credit Risk Manager of Enichem International in Zurich. 

 Mr. Ergas has also acted as lead analyst and advisor on cross-border M&A transactions in insurance / reinsurance, including Lloyds, and as a risk management adviser to hedge fund investors focusing on energy / commodities, high yield bonds, restructuring and shipping.

Mr. Ergas is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at New York University’s School of Professional Studies and an Adjunct Faculty member at Manhattanville College. Mr. Ergas is also an adjunct lecturer at CUNY City University of New York Lehman College. In 2014 he received the award for teaching excellence from NYU School of Professional Studies. He contributes regularly to international media commenting on key macro-economic issues.

Mr. Ergas received a B.A. Honors from Sussex University, Master of Business Administration from New York University, and an Advanced Professional Certificate in Accounting from New York University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is fluent in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese and has a certificate in Arabic from NYU ‘s School of Professional Studies.  Mr. Ergas holds FINRA Series 7 license.
